Datalogging

A small, low power datalogger is being assembled that will collect GPS data for accurate time and position. A suite of sensors that interface via ethernet, serial (3.3V/5V/12V), or USB can be added. The initial sensors will be measurements for practical purposes on board:

  • Battery voltage/State of Charge
  • Solar panel charging current
  • Air temperature and pressure

Oceanographic sensors may include a hydrophone or CTD profiler.

An interface to AIS (ship position broadcasts) may be added as well.

A weather station (humidity, wind speed, rain fall, solar flux, temperature, water surface temperature, etc) is likely not practical; satellite weather is remarkably detailed for the open ocean. In addition, it will need to be weatherproof for corrosive salt spray and high wind.
